Chaos when render distance above 6

What I expected to happen:
I expected the render distance to go up easily.

What happened:
Chaos ensued. Go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNgJz2sV-bM&feature=youtu.be to see what I mean.

How to reproduce:
Simply turn your render distance above 5 or so.
