Blocks sometimes do not show up upon placing immediately

When placing a block in multiplayer (have not tried in single player). The blocks place, but they do not immediately show up until another block in the vicinity (does not have to be next to it) gets placed. The same occurs in reverse when removing blocks. This happens intermittently but does occur quite often. Please let me know if any more information is required.
