Minecraft becomes unresponsive when focus is lost

While Minecraft applet is loaded and playing, if focus on Minecraft is lost to the another program (Such as Google Chrome) for more than a minute or so, Minecraft becomes unresponsive when focus is regained and must be force-quit.
