TNT causes ghost blocks to be left behind

After a multiple TNT explosion some blocks are still visible but cannot be interacted with. A single piece of TNT list by a redstone torch will leave behind the torch which cannot be interacted with. Toggling VBOs removes all ghost blocks. See attached images detailing the problem. First image is with VBOs, second is without.
