2 Hoppers problem

When you place 2 hoppers next to each other above a double chest, one of the hoppers connects to the one next to him. But when you break the one that lead into the chest, the other one still wants to connect to the other one resulting into the fact that items thrown into that hopper won't get placed into the chest.
