Mipmap - MC-1794

I have been wanting to use the Mipmap feature on the video settings to give me some smooth textures in the distance, although when turning it on it seems that it gives me a black grid. Don't know if this is a bug or not, probably something I did wrong. Does anyone else have this issue?
