Cannot Join Server

Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderExeption: java.io.IOException: Packet 0/38 (jn) was larger than I expected, found 141312 bytes extra whilst reading packet 38

Some info: I have a locally hosted minecraft server that runs both the client and server simultaneously. I ran into this issue while trying to join the server locally. I do not know if this affects people trying to connect from the internet.
PS. I connect to the server using :25565 instead of an IP address.
