Game not pausing when saving/on save menu

Strangely on the X360 edition, when I used the menu to save game, and left the main menu open, the game continued in the background.
So when I saved the game, and left to get a smoke, game kept running in the background, a bug walked over my boundary wall and killed me.
To make matters worse, the #$#$#^%#% game decided to auto save after I had been killed.
So my character was killed, and I had no way to go back to a decent last save. Every time I tried loading last save, I would go back to the "you were killed" screen. Way to screw me over!

Most game devs I know pause the game when the main menu is up, I guess Mojang missed the bus on this simple thing
