Spawn Portal creates new portal when exiting from nether

We set up a portal at spawn for the first time, went into the nether, upon exiting it created a new portal about 50-100 blocks away in a nearby swamp, if we break that portal and jump back into the original portal and exit again, it creates another in a cave under it and keeps doing the same thing if we continue to break the portals
