Mapping in creative mode in realms logged me out, reconnected in survival mode and died

Realms connected and changed mode to creative. Opened map and started flying to map the world so I could create copies of completed maps for kids who join the server. I was logged out as being idle. When I reconnected, I was dropped into the world in survival mode, fell and died.
