Error when allocating more RAM to minecraft

If i go into profile, check the 'JVM arguments' box and allocate 2GB of RAM to minecraft, then run minecraft, it comes up with an error saying:

'Error: Could not create Java virtual machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occured. Program will exit.'
