sleeping near hostile mobs

after getting in a bed i noticed that there were two creepers within 4 blocks of my character one walked to me and blew up but Minecraft let me sleep even though they were there.

steps to reproduce
1. create a bed in a savanna plateau biome
2.place bed
3. wait for creepers to spawn near the bed
4.attempt to sleep
