2x2 Trees go through but don't replace vines.

When I was growing 2x2 trees, I grew a giant jungle tree and a giant spruce tree next to each other. When I grew the giant spruce, it grew, but it didn't grow where the vines were. So... I made a giant spruce tree where it went to its normal height, but the vines replaced the wood where vines were.

What I expected to happen was:
To grow a normal 2x2 spruce tree.

What actually happened was:
I grew a spruce tree where vines make the wood blocks disappear.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Place a 2x2 square of saplings for trees that grow like that.
2. Put vines over the saplings.
3. Insta-grow the saplings (use bonemeal).
