Redstone Block disappearing when pushed by piston

If a circuit is created using four pistons arranged to push a Redstone Block around in a square, after a while, the block disappears. I have attached pictures of the circuit in question. The two screenshots were taken almost immediately after each other (i.e. the one where the redstone block is visible is right before it disappeared.)
