Cave Spiders spawn inside walls and ignore light.

Locate a cave spider spawner (in a mineshaft). Light it up. Wait. Cave spiders will spawn, and they will often spawn inside walls, suffocating. They will also spawn regardless of the light level - I've seen them spawn in the block next to a torch.
