Cannot see other players on linusx

I am unable to se anything related to another player being nearby except for their interactions with nearby tile entities (i.e. chests, levers, buttons, etc.) Other players see me just fine.

Things I've tried:

• Reconnect to server
• restart minecraft
• removed all resource packs
