Floating redstone torches

What I expected to happen was...:
When a block with redstone torches on the sides was broken I expected the torches to fall

What actually happened was...:
I placed down a block of soulsand then put a redsone torch on the 4 sides of it. When I broke the soulsand block the torches floated there. Even when I updated the spaces around it the torchs stayed there.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place a block on the ground (I used soulsand)
2. Place redstone torches on the sides
3. Break the block and the torches will float there.
