Pink and Black squares instead of fire when in lava

What I expected to happen was fire when I was burning in the lava.

What actually happened was pink and black sqaures replacing the fire. (Texture error) Btw I also had no texture packs on!

1. Place lava down
2. Walk into the lava
3. You will see the texture error of pink and black squares.
