Placing Oak Logs

Whenever I try to place oak logs, they don't get placed down (or off of my hotbar), then a second or so later the game crashes!
Info:
I was inside the spawn chunks in survival the first time this happened (then I repeated it multiple times)
I only tried with oak logs
Playing on Windows 7
