Stairs only face east, workbench crash, IDUNNOMYNAME:-(

What I expected to happen was...: Stairs to be able to be placed like they are in version 1.7.9, and to be able to craft some wooden tools.
What actually happened was...: The stairs all ONLY placed east, and my game crashed as soon as i tried to place down the workbench to craft some tools.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go into creative
2. obtain stair blocks
3. place them down

1. Go into survival on newest snapshot
2. punch a SPRUCE? tree
3. make workbench
4. game crashes

1. open newest snaphot (14w25a) in creative
2. look at a block in f3 mode
3. model says : model:IDUNNOMYNAME
