When trying to break blocks, you must turn first before being able to actually break anything

Instead of being able to just break blocks normally, I found that I had to turn first before actually being able to break or start breaking anything anything. After turning I am able to break/start breaking a block, however after breaking about 5 blocks (without turning again) I once again cannot not break blocks. If I wanted to break a block without turning, it takes about 5 clicks for the blocks to actually begin breaking.
