My custom skin reverts to Steve (I believe) when entering the Nether.

What I expected to happen was my skin to stay as my rather beautiful custom skin. What really happens is that every time I got through a Nether portal, my skin reverts to Steve.
To reproduce:
1. Enter the Nether
2. You're done
(Relogging will fix the problem until another portal is used)
