Lighting glitch with blocks next to Sugar Cane

What I expected to happen was...:
Sugar cane texture should appear as if there is proper lighting.

What actually happened was...:
Sugar cane is showing the same shape, but with no color making it look black.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place a block of dirt
2. Plant sugar cane next to water between dirt and water.
3. Look at the lighting glitch.
