Bug in MC Multiplayer

What I expected to happen was to land in a pool of water safely.

What actually happened was that I heard the sound of water and no sound of bones breaking but I just died and my sound was turned on at full!!!

1. Be at a height of more than 24 blocks.
2. Jump into the water.(Water must be beside land and only 1 block deep)
3. Without hearing bones breaking and hearing the sound of water, DIE!!!
