I am unable to use the chat function (T) or commands button (Slash) out of nowhere in any server

when in a server (multiplayer or single) my open chat button (T) isn't word and my command button (SLASH) isn't working. checked options and the command buttons are still the same, left the game open and running while not on it, for a couple hours, came back and unable to use these.
