Not sure if its a bug but I can't speak in the chat box

I was on a server today and I was trying to talk to my friend but it said I couldn't chat. So I guessed I got muted but I went on another server but still couldn't chat! I knew I wasn't muted because I never went on that server Everyone else was able to chat!
64 bit operating system
I dunno my Java version.
