Problems Joining Servers

Hello my name is Matt and I haven't been playing Minecraft for a while. Now that I am back to playing, whenever I try to join a server, it lets me play for a second on the server then kicks me out and tells me usually that I have a bad packet ID or the length is wider than 21-bit or the recieved encoded string buffer length is longer than maximum allowed. What should I do to solve this problem? I would very appreciate it if you got back to me.
