Client crash after expanding map twice

I created a new map in a recently generated ice plains biome, then teleported home (a long way, if it matters). I then put enough paper in the crafting table to expand the map twice, and did so. My client crashed, and a window said something along the lines of Error Accessing Container - please let the server owner know.

I did not shift-click the map to craft.

I did find a similar bug report on here, but it's apparently closed and for 1.4 through 1.6. This bug is still in the game!
