Name-tag showing despite invisibility potion

What I expected to happen was...:
When an invisibility potions is thrown, it should hide the players nametag

What actually happened was...:
The name tag was displayed over the invisible player

Steps to Reproduce:
Not exactly sure exactly how, for the reasons stated below.
It was thrown on my friend (owner of the server, RedStarGeneral) and his name tag showed (using a /effect command), but when given to me (gomango999), hid my name tag, as normal. We tried different things (for example, survival/creative, reconnecting) but to no avail.
