Ice in large quantities from the distance rendering correctly, just like it did at least from Beta 1.3 to 1.6 final.

What actually happened was...:
Ice in large quantities from the distance rendering badly.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place loads of ice next to each other in a plane or load a world with a large icy lake or sea;
2. Fly up in creative mode or simply look at it from a tall hill or building.
