Soul Sand Item Glitch

There is a bug with the block, "Soul Sand". If you hold on item in your hand, and go over soul sand, the item turns black. I do not know what to call this bug but it goes black line when you are in the End. Help?

  I also found that if you are in Third Person when over soul sand, you cannot see your shadow.
