Suffocation in leaves

In older versions of minecraft you didn't suffocate leaves, but now that happens, so when you ride your horse thought trees and your head hits a leave, you suffocate.
Also the suffocation damage is dealt a lot quicker than before, almost killing me in a manner of seconds.
