Minecarts being pushed by piston with no contact

In the latest snapshot, i am working on a map. I have a rail, command block mine cart, and a piston with a redstone block on it. When the piston is powered, the redstone block is moved over the activator rail. This however pushes the mine cart off the side of the rail and into the void. Here are some pictures.
