Broken blocks pop out and appear in far away locations from where they were broken

Expected to just break blocks and they would pop out and I would pick them up, but what happened was that they would go to some other place rather than dropping to the ground next to where they were broken. For instance, while mining, the blocks would pop off and then appear at surface. It was very frustrating because I was losing materials quite often.
