arrows that are shot very far dissapear after a few secconds

I fired an arrow at a 40* angle and the arrow came very far. it stayed there for 10 seconds then it dissapeared. I flew towards it and saw that it was gone.
the arrows was fired from a fire aspect bow.

what I expected to happen was: the arrow would still be there
what actually happened was: the arrows dissapeared
