Huge Chat Lag

The vanilla server running with 3 GB RAM we play on is receiving common chat lag of up to 2 minuets. The chat lag will slowly rise or slowly reduce over time and is especially bad when going through a portal and logging on. Not sure if this is just me or it is the snapshot.
