Held Blaze Rod not in hand

I recently found that blaze rods cannot be held in the players hand the same way sticks can. This would of course affect Minecraft Machinimas, YouTube videos, the player viewing themselves in F5 mode, and the way we view the game. If 1.8 does not fix this, propaganda will be everywhere...
