Barrier Block disappears when placing ladders on top of the block.

When playing the latest version of Minecraft on the Mac, was playing around with the Barrier Block. I soon discovered when placing ladders on the Block in Creative Mode, the red square with a line through it, disappeared. Wether this a Bug or a Feature on purpose is unknown.
