/spawnpoint command does nothing when entered into command blocks.

The spawn point command does not work at all when entered into a command block. When using selectors such as @a @p or individual player names.
The exact command being used is /spawnpoint @p and then coordinates.

The coordinates are NOT directly on pressure plates. I set them a good 2 blocks above the pressure plates. The exact commands DO work when entered into the chat console.
