Reinstalling due to no sound, but crashed

I was playing minecraft a few months ago and noticed there was no sound.
i checked the development console in the launcher and it said it was "unable to play sound" whenever i played.
So i attempted to reinstall minecraft but when i did so the launcher got stuck initializing the game.
