minecraft goes back to launcher

when i click play on the launcher it starts to load then when mojang appears, it exits the game and goes back to the launcher.

what i expected to happen was
to launch normally

what did happen
it didn't

steps to reproduce
1.open Launcher
2. press play
3. Launching
4.stops and exits back to launcher

I have tried the following
1. uninstalling then re installing java
2. updated graphic card drivers
