Item textures with overlays cause potion display box to turn invisible in a 16x16 pixel area.

When you select an item like a potion or a piece of leather armour in the inventory (generally any item that has an overlay texture) and hover over a box which tells you what potion effects you have, a 16x16 pixel area (the size of the overlay texture) of the box is invisible.
