Loss of Items

I am playing minecraft, as minecrafters do, and i save, quit, return to minecraft and i resume play. But sometimes one item does not return. I find this to occur when putting items in chests. They sometimes did not retain in chest. They are lost items. Ive checked everywhere for my blaze rods and they are no where. This has happened with other items too, but this is not in my memory with which items it was. This has been going on for a week in which i have notificed it.
