Particles seen over water are strangely transparent...

When playing, if I do anything that causes a particle effect (eg. falling onto a block from a height, eating, etc.) I assumed that those particles would keep the same look, no matter the environment. However, I encountered what I thought was a glitch, when particles became transparent when seen over water, as if they had become water-effect particles.

Steps to Reproduce:
>Be me
>Be handsome
>Play minecraft
>Do something with water in your direct field of view, that causes particles (chunks of food flying about while eating, falling onto a block from height, hearts hovering over animals in love...)
>And watch as the particles become transparent, rather than remain opaque.
