Can't join servers

when ever I try to join servers I always get Java connection exception connection timed out and it's very annoying cause I've been trying to play on servers with my cousin and he's been able to join and I haven't cause he doesn't get the problem I've tried many "solutions" but none of them work please help asap thanks
