Redstone repeaters getting stuck

The redstone repeaters keep getting stuck on either the off or on state. The only way to fix this temporarily is by updating the state around the repeater however I can't keep doing this every time I wish to use my contraption. It isn't visual only as it keeps my mechanism on the on state when the repeater is active.
