1.7.4 wont work

I loaded up the Minecraft Launcher, logged in and clicked play. I wanted to play with the newest Updates. Which are 1.7.3 and 1.7.4 to see what had changed, especially the bug fixes. But when I clicked play. The green bar filled. The launcher screen disappeared and all I was given was a black box. Now my JAVA is fully up to date, Adobe Flash Player is up to date. My Graphics Card is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 and all its Drivers are up to date. Someone please help me.
