unable to broadcast to twitch while playing offline

Trying to broadcast to twitch using latest snapshot, but get the message 'Twitch Broadcasting Unavailable, You cannot broadcast to Twitch whilst you are playing offline, Please go online and restart Minecraft.'

problem is, i am online, i can still connect to servers and i have a good internet connection. i've looked about but see no help.
