Minecraft Won't open after loading the green bar.

Currently version 1.7 something is out an I haven't played in a while so I still run 1.3.1 and im fine with that as long as I can still play. I successfully download minecraft open it, log in, then I press play. The green bar loads completely. But minecraft never actually opens? I have deleted minecraft downloaded it again I just cannot figure out whats wrong
Some help please?
