My minecraft game won't let me on. it says it keeps crashing

I had expected to have been able to play the newest version of minecraft on my desktop computer.
Instead minecraft game keeps saying that it is crashing everytime i try to launch it.

1. Launch Minecraft Launcher
2. Log In
3. Launch Minecraft
4. It shows a file report and say minecraft has crashed
